What we have been up to in Primary 5!

On Pyjama Day, P5 had a surprise visit to the Library to find out what life was like in a Victorian classroom.

Miss Anderson was very strict but the children listened very carefully and answered all the questions asked.

Primary 5 pupils proved to be excellent Hunters and Gatherers.

Thank you to all the parents who helped with making the tools and weapons - it gave the children a wonderful insight into what life was like for the first people who came to Ireland.

Some of the arrows travelled fantastic distances!

As part of our World Around Us topic, Life in Early Times, we have been learning about how the first people came to Ireland in a boat.

We then had the opportunity to work in groups to design and make our own boats from a variety of materials and then test how much 'cargo' they could carry!

Finding out about TRIANGLES in Primary 5

Can you work out which are equilateral triangles, isosceles triangles, scalene triangles or right angled triangles?

🎄Christmas in Primary 5🎄

The Primary 5 pupils designed Christmas pictures and drew them into polystyrene, rolled different colours of paint on them and then printed them onto material.

The children in P5 made use of a hacksaw, vice and hammer to create their own Christmas trees from balsa wood.  This involved a lot of measuring to make sure each branch of their tree was accurate in its placement.

Keeping with the theme of Christmas trees, the children made Christmas cards and used their ICT skills to decorate and type a personalised message for their families.

We were able to filter dirty water by making our own water filters.

The Primary 5 children have been finding out about The Great Plague.

During this time in history, people carried a posy made of herbs which they held over their nose and mouth to stop them from breathing in the bad air.

Thank you to Eugene from Clogher Valley for coaching us in Tag Rugby.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable time!

As part of our Water topic in Primary 5, we have been looking at the importance of water for our bodies.

We have found out the names of the main bones of the skeleton and learned that, to keep our bones healthy, we need to drink water, eat a healthy balanced diet and exercise regularly.
